O mais importante corpo de idéias referentes aos mecanismos e padrões de distribuição de floras e faunas da América Tropical, foi - a nosso ver - a chamada "teoria dos refúgios". Tanto pelo que ela envolve de significância biogeográfica e ecológica, quanto pela sua própria expe­ riência de multidisciplinaridade plena, na interface das geociências e biociências. [...]
