Abstract

Eight agoutis were kept in a 10 by 12 m enclosure, in Santo Antônio ranch, Campinas, SP. In the same enclosure adult domestic fowl and five chicks of var. were kept. Predation of eight adult chickens and one Numida meleagris. were observed. Chicks were also used for experimental purposes and were predated. I observed agoutis eating chicken and goose eggs. It can be concluded that agoutis exert a heavy predation pressure on ground nesting birds, factor to be considered when planning repopulation envisaging forest regeneration. Agouti seed dispersal should be considered, as their predatory habits.
