ILHA ANCHIETA STATE PARK - VISITOR EXPERIENCE QUALITY ASSESSMENT

A Visitor experience in a natural protected area may occur differently among a different public, being associated to the way they evaluate their own experience and their first expectations. Cultural factors, social economic context and familiarity degree of the natural environment are crucial for how individuals receive and perceive the benefits of their contacts to a Protected Area. The State Park of Ilha Anchieta – PEIA was the study area elected for joining the quality and the isolation expectations within some people while providing rich scenery for recreational activities, related to social activities at a coastal environment. Reaching the comprehension of the relationship between the visitor and natural areas in order to provide tools for management of public use in the referred Park, visitors were interviewed during high season visitation in 2004. The results regarding the motivations and evaluations aspects of their visit reveal the existence of two main groups of visitors which shows conflicting views and behaviors. However, while the Park welcomes such diversified groups, the contact appreciation of the natural environment was shown as a link between them all, enabling management activities of public use which amplifies the quality of experience for every natural environment visitor.
