Abstract

Seedling distribution around an Astronium graveolens tree was studied, by the census of cohort, subdivided in 20 concentric rings in width. Young plants were grouped in high classes and located in fourquadrants, to determine their survival and dispersion pattern in Reserva Florestal de Unhares, ES, Brazil. 14743 plants were counted, concentrated at NO and NE from the mother-tree. Cohort density decreased and maximum height of plants rose with the distance increase. These observations suggest higher survival greatestthe distance frorn the adult. Plants higher than 1m were not found; so, it is possible 20m to be a very short distance to the establishment of another adult.
