Wetlands have a high value for fauna conservation, as they act as transition areas and have species dependent on resources from riparian habitats. The high specificity of these environments is essential to maintain biodiversity and local ecosystem processes. In addition, the seasonal availability of resources can influence the functional dynamics of the avian fauna. Despite its great importance, studies about bird assemblages in permanently flooded forests are still scarce. Therefore, this study sought to delimit the seasonal dynamics of the bird community in areas of Swamp Forest in Bauru region, state of São Paulo, southeastern Brazil. We employed six point counts with limited distance, every two weeks between April 2018 and March 2019. We evaluated taxonomic and functional structure of the assemblage, correlating diversity parameters with the two current seasons: dry and rainy. We found differences between the two seasons, both in taxonomic (specific composition) and functional (habitat stratification) structure. Contrary to our expectations, diversity was lower during the rainy season. This fact demonstrates that the Swamp Forests might be acting as refuge areas for birds in the region. The richness and abundance decrease in the rainy season, which is contrary to what was established for the Cerradão in the region. Therefore, Swamp Forests inserted in larger fragments provide resources for the species during an adverse period, contributing to the maintenance of biodiversity on a regional scale.
