Pinus radiata D. Don rooted cuttings trees from one-year-old ortets were compared with seedlings at two sites in southern Chile, at seven years old, for total height, stem diameter, stem volume, and a subjective assessment for stem straightness and relative diameter of the branches. In general, cuttings from one-year-old donor trees grew as tall as or taller than the seedlings, and demonstrated advantageous characteristics such as superior stem straightness and small relative diameter of the branches, compared with seedlings of equivalent genetic quality. Nevertheless, no differences were found between stock types in any of measured characteristics at seven years after establishment. At the moment, with these results, plants production via rooted cuttings can be an useful method for establishment of Pinus radiata operational plantation.
