A new species is described for Ocotea Aublet (Lauraceae), belonging to the subgenus Mespilodaphne (Nees) Mez, which assembles al1 species with monoclinous flowers. The new taxon, Ocotea beulahíae Baitel1o, has been collected in mesophytic forests of the State of São Paulo, Brazil, and is closely related to O. odorífera (Vel1.) Rohwer and O. Ianata (Nees) Mez. Some of its characters are intermediate between the subgenera Mespílodaphne (Nees) Mez and Dendrodaphne (Beurl.) Mez.
