This study intends to characterize some process invoIved in the secondary succession in the dense ombrofile forest area. The project was developed in Núcleo Santa Virgínia, São Luiz do Paraitinga, São Paulo, Brazil. Two secondary forests areas were sampled by quadrats, one aproximateIy fifteen years old and another with age between twenty five and thirty years. The analisys of data showed modifications in the floristic composition and in the community and populations structures, beyond important modifications in the functional groups and in the seed dispersal syndromes.
