Twenty three half-sib families of Pinus canõaea Mor. var. bahamensis Bar. et Gol. were proceeding from Queensland, Australía, evaluated at age 2 and 5 . The trial was planted on the Bebedouro Forest from the São Paulo Forest Institute using a randomized complete block desing, 7 replications, 4 linear plants per plot and spacing of 3.0 x 2.0 m. The purpouse was to study the development of the species on the field and to estimate the genetic parameters of the silviculturaltraits looking for the improvement of the species.The average and field development revealed an adapted genetic material and the potentíal to experimental regional reforestation. Genetic variation among progenies, were detected for aU studied characteristics as: DBH, height, stem strigthness,number of intemodes, number of branches per whorle, branches thickness and real volume. The heritability and the genetic gains for the between and within progenies· selection reveled a good performance .for the genetic material
