Sixteen inorganic elements (Ba, Ca, Mg, Fe, AI, Ti, V, Ni, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Pb, B and P) of the soil of Serra da Cantareira (SP) were determined. The samples of soil were collected during one year, in different sites at a depth of 0-20 cm and 20-40 cm and distance of 1 and 2 m of a Croton jloribundus Spreng species. The acid decomposition of the soil was done using microwave radiation and the inorganic elements were determined by ICP-AES. The soil studied is acid and the presence of heavy metais such as Pb, Ni and Cd, showed the possibility of anthropic contamination in an area primely considered unpolluted. The hierarchical clusters analysis showed the influence . of climate factors in the concentration of elements in the soil.
