THE FOREST SECTOR AS A BASIS FOR REGIONAL SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: CASE STUDY IN CROSS-CUT SOUTH, RS

Forest sector is understood as the set of primary and secondary productive activities, which exploit, conserve, manage and renew and or implant forests, as well as use wood as the main input for industrial transformation. The productive chain of the forestry sector triggers changes in the regional economy due to the production and transformation of the raw material . Therefore, the objetive of this study is to clarify and point the socioeconomic dinamic of Encruzilhada do Sul, relating these informations with the forest sector development in the studied city, based mainly on the Gross Value of Forest Production and Socioeconomic Indicators. The data collection was realized through research in specialized literature, as well as in research institutions platforms, aiming to obtain information with agents restricted to the study region. It was possible to observe an increase of the wood production, except for the years of 2008/2009, due to the worldwide crisis that affected specially the exportations scope. The forestry sector is responsible for most of the local establishments and employment relationships. The socioeconomics indices of Encruzilhada do Sul were impacted positivly over the studied period, as result of the labor absorption, jobs generation and increase of the acquisition power, originating from the forestry sector, which impacted positvely in the life quality of the city residents, making the forest sector an important vector for local/regional development.
