This paper demonstrates the effectiveness of the course "Multidisciplinary approach in environmental education for elementary and secondary teachers", in relation to their knowledge increase and shifts in values on environmental themes and on the Ecological Station of Caetetus. The target audience of this research included 35 teachers from elementary (basic to eighth grade) and secondary regional schools. Data were gathered through daily evaluations; application of pre and post tests; elaboration of lesson plans and a questionnaire mailed four months after the course. Results indicated the effectiveness of the course as an educational strategy to increase knowledge and shift values and attitudes towards conservation and the valorization of the Station's natural environment. Observations showed teachers created, adapted and implemented educational activities and showed interest in broadening their environmental education knowledge. Teachers became multipliers of information gained during the course, disseminating conservation ideas among their students and colleagues. The results confirm the importance of courses on non-formal environmental education to enrich formal education and to enhance the protection of natural areas.
