Abstract

Analysis of variancc for gum yield, dbh and height were used to cvaluatc an opcn-pollinatcd progeny test containing 100 families. The familics are 89 progenies of Pinus caribaea var. bahamensis from Centro de Conservação e Melhoramento de Pinheiros Tropicais - CCGMPT, Aracruz, ES, a clonal secd orchard selected for volume and stem form, three progenies of Pinus caribaea var. bahamensis and eight progenies of Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis, four of thcm selected in Assis, SP for high oleoresin yicld. The main purpose of this papcr was the gcnetic variability of oleoresin yicld. The genetic paramctcrs cstimatcs showcd enough variability to assure genetic gains to ali of the charactcristics. The higher mcan oleoresin production of the 89 progenies of Pinus caribaea varo bahamcnsis, comparing with the mcan production of Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis progcrucs selected for gum yicld, indicatcs the opportunity of sclection on Pinus caribaea varo bahamensis for olcorcsin yicld. The positive genetic correlation among traits indicatc that selcction for oleoresin yicld will not disturb the breeding program for volume and formo The cxpcctcd genetie gain for gum yield by selection on the 89 progenies of Pinus caribaea varo bahamensis is about 28,33%.
