Abstract

As part of study conducted on reproductive biology of Genipa americana L. (Rubiaceae), the research undertaken in loco named "Mata da Figueira", belonging to Moji-Guaçu Ecological Station, SP (22°18'S; 47°1O'Wl has utilized two identical samples of 20,900 m each. On the portions ali individuaIs have been mapped from samplings of 15 em high, to adults, which have been classified as follows: juveniles (height <= 6 m, presenting unformed crown); young trees (height <= 6 m with reduced crown and no reproductive capacity) and male and female adults (with formed crown and regular reproductive activity). Their DBHs were also recorded. The data from the survey were related to the local climatical and geomorphological conditions. The high: percentages of juvenilesand the frequency distributions for height and diameter reflected the high regenerative potentiality of the species and its vulnerability to adverse conditions of the environment upon the initial phase of development and the periodic interference of weather conditions, which are proper from the riparian environment.
