MANEJO FLORESTAL NO BAIXO AMAZONAS

Abstract

As a function of the country's energy politics accepted, the Mineração Rio do Norte (MRN) throu.gh Florestas Rio Doce S.A. (FRDSA) developed research in forest area with the objective to obtain an efficient silvicultura! system able to substitute the oil use in the drying of bauxite. Underthese conditions and recognizing theforestry potential, the management studywas installed in 1985 with the goal to product fuel-wood and sawmill in suitable forest management. In this essay are tested different levei of forest exploration, and this paper reports the results obtained in logging activities and the increase in basal area (m²/ha), number of trees (N/ha) and number of species (S) at four years old (1985-1989).
