A new Myrcia DC (Myrtaceae) species is described (Myrcia anisum Concorcet & Jairo). The plants, a small tree, grow wildly in the Capão Bonito region of the São Paulo State, Brazil. The leaves were steam distilled and yielded 3.8% (dryweight basls) of an essential oil ranging between 85,50 and 99,42% of methylchavicol in its composition.
