AVALIAÇÃO DOS TEORES DE MACRO E MICRONUTRIENTES EM FOLHAS JOVENS E VELHAS DE ERVA-MATE NATIVA

The contents.of macro and micronutrients in young and old leaves of erva-mate (lIex paraguariensis, St. Hillaire) growing in acid soils near São João do Triunfo, Paraná, Brazil, were measured. It were showed good supplies for N, K, Ca, Mg, Fe and Zn, high Cu concentrations in young leaves and high AI and Mn levels mainly in old leaves. Althougtthe low P levels in old leaves there were not visual symptoms of deficiency. The low contentof P can lead thatthere is an erva-mate adaptation to the acid soils. The investigation of the adaptation mechanisms to the adverse soil condition can lead to techniques to keep the genetical and productive potential of this native species.
