DURABILIDADE NATURAL DE MADEIRAS EM CONTATO COM O SOLO

Twenty hardwoods were exposed in three test sites with characteristics to evaluate the natural durability. The Cubatão field is the more active to provoke deterioration of the woods studied and the Campos do Jordão field is the less active. The results of the field test after 9 and 12 years indicate that the average life of wood cumaru (Dipterix a/ata), guarapa (Apu/eia /eiocarpa), guarucaia (Pe/tophorum dubium), jatobá (Hymenaea stilbocarpa), peroba-rosa (Aspidosperma po/yneuron) and faveiro (Pterodon pubescens) is inferior to 9 years and cabreúvaparda (Myrocarpus frondosus) is inferior to 12 years. The performance of the great numberof wood species change with edaphic and climatic conditions with xylophagon population and the durance of the exposition time.
