The aimed of this study was to quantify the percentage of native vegetation area, deforestation and disturbances in municipalities of the province of Bologna - Italy, through the Landsat satellite imagery and by the method of mapping the CLASlite software, which has as its main tool the fragmentation of the pixels and the use of a spectral library which contemplates the variability of Photosynthetic Vegetation - VF, Non-Photosynthetic Vegetation - VNF and uncovered Substrate - S. It was verified that the studied region has 46,075.47 ha of native forests in 2010, with the municipality of Granaglione having the largest area of native forests and the lowest percentage of deforestation. CLASlite has mapped the deforested areas between the years 2012 and 2013, dividing them into disturbances (286,17 ha) and deforestation (669.06 ha), which were compared to the data provided by Polizia Forestale of Bologna, which declared the suppression of 1,454.25, underestimating the classificationperformed by CLASlite. The variation in the quantification of the areas will initially be different methods and dates of information acquisition and presence of clouds and shadows in the image. In addition, the low spatial resolution of Landsat brings greater variability within a same pixel and even doing the fractionation, confusions may occur between classes of land use, since the classifier algorithm library has samples of tropical forests. It is concluded that the use of CLASlite, as well as other SIGs, are of great importance and help in mapping areas of native vegetation and deforestation, however, it is recommended to adjust the S, VF and VNF thresholds in order to which may be adjusted endmembers also for temperate forests.
