The aims of this work were to estimate the genetic parameters and selection gains of oleoresin production in Pinus elliottii var. elliottii, at 4 and 12 years old, respectively, on three sites of the south of São Paulo State, Brazil. Open-pollinated families of 90 P. elliottii var. elliottii trees were selected to oleoresin production, on commercial stands, in Itapetininga, SP. The experiments were assayed in Angatuba State Forest, Itapetininga and Itapeva Experimental Stations using three blocks, 10 plants per plot, and a commercial control of P. elliottii var. elliottii and P. caribaea var. bahamensis. Significant differences among families to oleoresin production were detected in both Experimental Stations and joint analysis, indicating the possibility of genetic gains through selection. The site x genotype interactions were significant to oleoresin production at 12 years (α = 0.05), suggesting that multipopulation strategy as more recommended for selection. The oleoresin production in progenies of P. elliottii var. elliottii at 12 years old, overcomes the controls in three sites. The coefficients of genetic variation and heritability showed the possibility to have genetic gains through selection to oleoresin productions. The genetic correlations between DBH and oleoresin production were positive and low. The genetic correlation among 4 and 12 years old was high ( g ≥ 0.55) suggesting the possibility to undertaken selection in young trees. The estimation of genetic gains to oleoresin productions varied from low (1.6%) to high (29.2%) among sites.
